Australian Idol winner Stan Walker will headline the North Coast TAFE's popular Deadly Days Festival when it makes a return to Tuncurry in September. Ernie Dingo will host the tour as it makes stops in Tuncurry, Kempsey and Casino. The event wil include a program of action learning and activities for Aboriginal communities up and down the coast. North Coast TAFE director of Aboriginal Learning Partnerships, Heather McGregor said that last year's festivals attracted over 2000 students from 115 schools from as far away as Tamworth and Penrith. The day is a 'come one, come all event' with performances by the headline acts, popular hip hop workshops, sessions with sporting heroes and other high profile Aboriginal people and healthy cultural food on the menu.

The festivals encourage increased participation by young Aboriginal people in education, training and employment.  The Deadly Days Festival will visit Great Lakes TAFE Campus on Friday September 3 from 9am to 3pm.

Nabiac Charity Rodeo committee has been reformed. The last event was held 23 years ago. The rodeo and chopping events will kick off at 12noon with bands performing from 8 to 11pm Saturday 2nd October at the Nabiac Showground.  Fantastic acoustic guitarists/singer songwriters Matt Zarb and Minnie Marks plus the Gold Coast based Hussy Hicks will perform as part of the Acoustic Guitar Masters Australia series. Headlining the night will be the Sydney based Country/Rock outfit Chuck's Wagon.

There will be kids activities, food stalls, a bar area and Al Wilson the Rodeo Clown. Ticket prices will be Adult $18; family $38 (2 adults & 3 children u/16); Child and Seniors $15; Children under 5 are free.

 The nominated charity for this year's event, is the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Everyone is guaranteed a rocking good time at Nabiac on the October long weekend.

'The Blessing of the Fleet' originated in Molfetta, Italy and came to Tuncurry 45 years ago.  Following a 9am special mass at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Tuncurry, the Italian community leads a colourful procession through the streets of Tuncurry to the waterfront carrying a statue of Madonna Dei Martiri, patroness of fishermen. There, a decorated trawler escorts the Madonna and Father Kevin Corrigan to the waiting fleet in the channel.  This spectacular procession is a must see on the long weekend.

The finale will have the audience on their feet yelling for more.  Written by nationally recognised playwright, Judith Prior, fans wil be familiar with her work. Great Lakes Nursing Home assisted by the Bulahdelah Lions Club present THE MYALL CHALLENGE on October 15, 16 & 17 2010. Not a race but a personal challenge - can you endure 1, 2 or 3 days of this exciting paddling event. Participate in any or all of the three stages or change your crew for each of the different legs. Participants can start at any time of the day but should aim to complete each segment before 5pm. Support boats will be on hand at each stage with refreshments and BBQ at the end of each day. Canoes and kayaks will be securely stored each night (at Nerong on Fri and Violet Hill on Sat) enabling participants to return to the comfort of their own accommodation overnight. Participants will be responsible for their own canoes/kayaks, lifejackets, lunches/drinks and snacks together with transport to and from each venue. Cost per person per stage is $10 ie., $30pp for all three stages, $10 for a single stage. Get together with a group of friends or family and get into training for a wonderful wekeend exploring the beautiful Myall Lakes waterways.

Fri 15th Oct - depart from boat ramp opposite  Plough Inn Hotel 7am onwards arriving Nerong by 5pm.

Sat 16th Oct - depart Nerong 7am on - arrive Violet Hill before 5pm.

The Great Lakes - Great Produce group, consisting of food producers, restaurateurs, vegetable, fruit and herb growers and local people who are passionate about great food. Their aim is to promote fresh produce grown or made in the Great Lakes, and the neighbouring regions of Gloucester, Greater Taree and beyond. Some of the produce to be found include country style breads, cheeses, coffee, bottled preserves, native and rainforest plants, organically grown and bio-dynamically produced foods.  Market runs from 8.00am - 12noon.

This is a popular market located harbour side near the bridge and has the added advantage of being sited from the main street in Tuncurry. This is totally open air with use of the under cover Podium for entertainment.  Many of the stall holders come from the local 'North Coast Region' and sell a diverse range of products, from handmade wooden toys to handmade organic skincare. A good variety of clothing, lots of plants, plenty to suit all tastes.   Also available at the market is face painting and the famous Coastal Patrol BBQ.  Market runs from 8.00am - 2.00pm.  (please note the December Market will be held on the 18th)

GLEAM Stands for Great Lakes Entertainers and Musicians and is hostedby the Tuncurry Bowling Club.  A professional audio and lighting system is provided (with an operator) for local band and soloists who would like to get up on a real stage and be heard.  It's all family friendly and free for performers and guests. 

GLEAM 1 is on the first Sunday of the month and is best for loud bands.  While GLEAM 3 is on the third Sunday and is a more relaxed environment, better suited to soloists and bands that play at lower volumes.  Both events start at 3:30pm  Support local artists by coming along and enjoying a great Sunday Afternoon session at the Tuncurry Bowlo
