Forster Farmers Market

The Great Lakes - Great Produce group, consisting of food producers, restaurateurs, vegetable, fruit and herb growers and local people who are passionate about great food. Their aim is to promote fresh produce grown or made in the Great Lakes, and the neighbouring regions of Gloucester, Greater Taree and beyond. Some of the produce to be found include country style breads, cheeses, coffee, bottled preserves, native and rainforest plants, organically grown and bio-dynamically produced foods.  Market runs from 8.00am - 12noon.

Tea Gardens Village Market

Tea Gardens Village Markets is a new and vibrant market situated in the Village Square of the Myall Quays Shopping Village, in Tea Gardens.  With over 30 stallholders selling crafts, plants, photography, gourmet food, body products, clothing, recycled timber products and jewellery, handmade chocolates there is an abundance of variety to choose from.  When combined with the entertainment on offer, you are guaranteed a great family day out!   (please note there will be additional markets on the 3 April, 12 June & 2 Oct)

This is a popular market located harbour side near the bridge and has the added advantage of being sited from the main street in Tuncurry. This is totally open air with use of the under cover Podium for entertainment.  Many of the stall holders come from the local 'North Coast Region' and sell a diverse range of products, from handmade wooden toys to handmade organic skincare. A good variety of clothing, lots of plants, plenty to suit all tastes.   Also available at the market is face painting and the famous Coastal Patrol BBQ.  Market runs from 8.00am - 2.00pm.  (please note the December Market will be held on the 18th)

Nabiac Farmers Market

Nabiac is a quaint and quiet town just off the Pacific Highway, nestled in the hinterland 15 minutes from Forster. This market is held in one of the most picturesque showgrounds in the state.  Be early for the best pick of the locally grown and produced goodies such as organic vegies, free range eggs, local fruits, chocolates, gingerbread, honey, olives and olive oil, plants, chooks, quail, wine tasting, local crafts, BBQ and an all round social event.  Bring a friend and enjoy an old-fashioned shopping experience. The use of reusable bags and baskets are encouraged. Market runs from 8.00am til 12noon. (please note there will be no December Market) 

Pacific Palms Market

Pacific Palms Market

This is a market with definite atmosphere, you can wander through colourful stalls and peruse the collection of local handmade jewellery, timber carvings, body products, hemp clothing, eco & fair trade products, there's even a Tibetan stall where you can purchase Tibetan prayer flags, affirmation scrolls or a metal singing bowl....  The Palms Market is famous for its great organic foods and coffee. Sample the delicious banana pancakes, whilst sipping on an expresso on the shaded deck overlooking the stalls.  With pony rides and a jumping castle for the kids!  Market runs from 9.00am - 1.00pm (please note there will be no market in March & April's markets will be held on the Sat 4th & Sat 25)

GLEAM Stands for Great Lakes Entertainers and Musicians and is hostedby the Tuncurry Bowling Club.  A professional audio and lighting system is provided (with an operator) for local band and soloists who would like to get up on a real stage and be heard.  It's all family friendly and free for performers and guests. 

GLEAM 1 is on the first Sunday of the month and is best for loud bands.  While GLEAM 3 is on the third Sunday and is a more relaxed environment, better suited to soloists and bands that play at lower volumes.  Both events start at 3:30pm  Support local artists by coming along and enjoying a great Sunday Afternoon session at the Tuncurry Bowlo

The Ocean & Earth NSW Junior Surfing Titles will be held at Forster/Tuncurry from Wed 28 July to Sun 1 August 2010. The titles will see over 200 of the best junior surfers in NSW compete across 6 divisions for prestigious State Titles. The event will be fully mobile in the Great Lakes area with Nine Mile Beach, Tuncurry, One Mile Beach Forster and Boomerang Beach at Pacific Palms all venue options.

3rd Annual TriNSW Female Triathlon Training Camp

The 3rd Annual TriNSW Female Triathlon Training Camp will be held in Forster - this will be the best female camp yet. Held in the forests around Bulahdelah , the 2010 Myall Stages Rally has been upgraded to a NSW State Championship round with a Clubman event held at the end for those competitors who want to have fun.  Myall Stages is also the only club rally in NSW which provides an opportunity for drivers to develop their pacenoting skills. Rally Headquarters will be located at Bulahdelah Showground, Prince Street.

PGA 72 Hole Championships - Hawks Nest Golf Club

Hawks Nest Golf Club will be the home of the NSW/ACT PGA Trainee 72 hole Championships for the next three years. The club is a championship rated 18 hole course with an ACR of 71. The course is surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife including many birds, some dingos and the occasional koala. There is a modern clubhouse and the club maintains a hire fleet of Yamaha electric golf carts for use by members and visitors. Entry forms available from the club.

Deadly Days Festival - North Coast TAFE

Australian Idol winner Stan Walker will headline the North Coast TAFE's popular Deadly Days Festival when it makes a return to Tuncurry in September. Ernie Dingo will host the tour as it makes stops in Tuncurry, Kempsey and Casino. The event wil include a program of action learning and activities for Aboriginal communities up and down the coast. North Coast TAFE director of Aboriginal Learning Partnerships, Heather McGregor said that last year's festivals attracted over 2000 students from 115 schools from as far away as Tamworth and Penrith. The day is a 'come one, come all event' with performances by the headline acts, popular hip hop workshops, sessions with sporting heroes and other high profile Aboriginal people and healthy cultural food on the menu.

The festivals encourage increased participation by young Aboriginal people in education, training and employment.  The Deadly Days Festival will visit Great Lakes TAFE Campus on Friday September 3 from 9am to 3pm.

The Small Footprint Initiative

The Small Footprint Initiative is a community run event to encourage a positive local spirit, directed towards raising awareness of a healthy, active, socially and ecologically responsible lifestyle in our area.

The proposed format for the initiative includes a "slow food" organic wine dinner and entertainment on Friday evening with Saturday's events centring on sustainable home tours, demonstrations and workshops (Pacific Palms). Sunday will include a much wider variety of information and education stalls, workshops and discussions. There will also be a strong push towards fun & educational children's activities. This will include hands on science experiments including water testing and gardening, as well as face painting, craft projects, games, live music, etc

Nabiac Charity Rodeo committee has been reformed. The last event was held 23 years ago. The rodeo and chopping events will kick off at 12noon with bands performing from 8 to 11pm Saturday 2nd October at the Nabiac Showground.  Fantastic acoustic guitarists/singer songwriters Matt Zarb and Minnie Marks plus the Gold Coast based Hussy Hicks will perform as part of the Acoustic Guitar Masters Australia series. Headlining the night will be the Sydney based Country/Rock outfit Chuck's Wagon.

There will be kids activities, food stalls, a bar area and Al Wilson the Rodeo Clown. Ticket prices will be Adult $18; family $38 (2 adults & 3 children u/16); Child and Seniors $15; Children under 5 are free.

 The nominated charity for this year's event, is the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Everyone is guaranteed a rocking good time at Nabiac on the October long weekend.

'The Blessing of the Fleet' originated in Molfetta, Italy and came to Tuncurry 45 years ago.  Following a 9am special mass at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Tuncurry, the Italian community leads a colourful procession through the streets of Tuncurry to the waterfront carrying a statue of Madonna Dei Martiri, patroness of fishermen. There, a decorated trawler escorts the Madonna and Father Kevin Corrigan to the waiting fleet in the channel.  This spectacular procession is a must see on the long weekend.

Music, singing, dancing and great humour can only mean one thing - audiitions for GLADS up and coming production, Opportunity Knocks, are about to get under way. Full of plenty of questionable characters, Opportunity Knocks, is set in an op shop run by a motley crew of volunteers in their senior years. The finale will have the audience on their feet yelling for more.  Written by nationally recognised playwright, Judith Prior, fans wil be familiar with her work. The performances will be held at the Tuncurry Memorial Hall.

The Myall Challenge

Great Lakes Nursing Home assisted by the Bulahdelah Lions Club present THE MYALL CHALLENGE on October 15, 16 & 17 2010. Not a race but a personal challenge - can you endure 1, 2 or 3 days of this exciting paddling event. Participate in any or all of the three stages or change your crew for each of the different legs. Participants can start at any time of the day but should aim to complete each segment before 5pm. Support boats will be on hand at each stage with refreshments and BBQ at the end of each day. Canoes and kayaks will be securely stored each night (at Nerong on Fri and Violet Hill on Sat) enabling participants to return to the comfort of their own accommodation overnight. Participants will be responsible for their own canoes/kayaks, lifejackets, lunches/drinks and snacks together with transport to and from each venue. Cost per person per stage is $10 ie., $30pp for all three stages, $10 for a single stage. Get together with a group of friends or family and get into training for a wonderful wekeend exploring the beautiful Myall Lakes waterways.

Fri 15th Oct - depart from boat ramp opposite  Plough Inn Hotel 7am onwards arriving Nerong by 5pm.

Sat 16th Oct - depart Nerong 7am on - arrive Violet Hill before 5pm.

Sun 17th Oct - depart Violet Hill 7am on arriving Neranie before 5pm for family BBQ & festivities.

A great day out for all "Rev-Heads"!  Join us for the 9th Annual Motorfest event featuring hundreds of veteran, vintage, classic & modern cars, trucks and motorcycles. There will be displays and amusements including presentations by the Fire Brigade, Ambulance Service and the Surf Lifesaving Club. A special performance group and the Tea Gardens School Band will be there to entertain; food and drinks available at the local community club stalls, raffles and judging of vehicles.

Welcome to the 12th Annual Rock to Rock Ocean Swim.  Enjoy a 1.5km swim at one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever visit, one of the famed "North Coast - north-facing-beaches" which means it is sheltered from the vicissitudes of the nasty weather. FREE BBQ is included in the cost of entry. The late start (12noon), means it's easily done as a day trip from Sydney, thus avoiding the perils of Easter traffic. Commencing with 'The Celebrity Duck Race' for local businesses and followed shortly afterwards by the main 'Easter Duck Race' aimed at the individual or family, in particular children.  Monies raised will support a range of local Rotary Youth programs & a yet-to-be nominated local not-for-profit organisation.

This swim is a ripper and is fast becoming known as one of the late season classics.  Swimmers will traverse the length of One Mile Beach from Cape Hawke Surf Club before rounding Bennett's Head, swimming past the Tanks and Pebbly Beach to finish on Forster Main Beach approximately 3.8km later.  There is also a shorter 1km swim from Pebbly Beach to Main Beach on offer for those who do not wish to take on the main event. Spectators can view the swim along the coastal walkways  - well worth the walk as it offers great views of the swimmers & the coastline.  Start times -  8:30am & 10:30am

Enjoy a scenic 5km run starting on Forster Main Beach, up Second Head and along Pebbly Beach parkland to Frewin's Walk. Return the same way, back along the beach, past the Surf Club and over Pilot Hill, past the Coastal Patrol to the breakwall. Return along Reserve Rd, under the bridge and along Memorial Drive to the finish at Gloria Jean's.  There's a race category for every age & ability! Heaps of prizes, but race limited to 100 competitiors.

Come and play (or just spectate) at the annual Myall Classic Golf Championships at Hawks Nest Golf Club.  Hawks Nest is a championship rated 18 hole course with an ACR of 71 and is probably the finest wet weather course in the Newcastle district.  Set in a beautiful tranquil natural bushland, the club offers modern clubhouse facilties and always a warm welcome!
