The Blackhead Bazaar is a community market organised and operated by Hallidays Point Tidy Towns Committee. The Bazaar attracts a good mix of stalls selling arts & craft, flowers, bric-a-brac, clothes, fruit & veg, home cooked preserves, jams, pickles, cakes, biscuits, chocolates and gingerbread. It is especially renowned for its large number of plant stalls ranging from specialised palms sales to tube stock and local native plants. Other attractions include buskers, bouncy castle & pony rides. A BBQ breakfast runs all morning. Market runs from 8:30am - 1.00pm. (nb. markets September to May only.)

Some of the produce to be found includes country style breads, cheeses, coffee, bottled preserves, native and rainforest plants, organically grown and bio-dynamically produced foods. Bay Adventure - Port Stephens & Great Lakes

This great new multi-sport event will be held in and around the Port Stephens and Great Lakes area including Soldiers Point, Pindimar, Tea Gardens, Shoal Bay, Nelson Bay and Salamander. This off and on road multi-event will see participants swim 1.6km, then a mountain bike ride, then kayak from Tea Gardens to Shoal Bay with the final leg along footpaths and foreshore parks to the finish line at Salamander Shores, Soldiers Point. The Tuncurry/Forster Jockey Club is very happy to announce that another race meeting will be held on Saturday 10 March. Come along, glam up to witness the running of the 2012 VB Gold Cup Day. At the track gates open at 10am with free buses running every half hour from Forster Tuncurry. The club is also going to hold a 'Fashions on the Field' day to celebrate the running of this race with prizes for both ladies and gents from some of the best fashion shops in the twin towns. There will be many display vehicles from different NSW Motoring Clubs with this motorfest being one of the largest rural events in NSW. There will be exhibits of Veteran, Vintage, Classic & Unique cars and Motorcycles of different models and makes. There will be a "Monster Demolition Derby" at 6.30pm to raise funds for the Childrens Ward of the Manning Base Hospital by way of an auction and raffling of cars - the winners of the cars can drive in the Derby.

Get your motors running..... Bulahdelah rock, rattle 'n' roll classic autofest is on again!!! Saturday 17th March will see hot rods, vintage, veteran & classic cars, trucks, motorcycles and tractors cruise into town from as far away as the Queensland border and NSW South Coast. If last year's turn out is anything to go by it will be one heck of a show. Together will market stalls, food, live music, giveaways and fun & games for the kids there'll certainly be no shortage of things to do. Extra special features at this year's show will include special guests, animal rides, trike rides and a few extra suprises as well( something special might just drop out of the sky) Festivities kick off at 10am in Meade St behind bulahdelah shops. Entry is a gold coin donation.

Come along to Forster's Annual Duck Race on Easter Sunday in Breckenridge Channel off Memorial Drive Forster behind Westpac at 11.45pm. Aimed at the individual or family, in particular children. Sponsor a duck and if it's first across the line you'll win first prize of $250 (second prize $150 and third $100). Purchase your ticket from the scouts who will be selling them around Forster Tuncurry in the weeks leading up to the annual Duck Race.
Local businesses also have the opportunity to be involved by sponsoring a duck in the 'Corporate Duck Race'. Tickets are $20 each with only 100 tickets available. First prize for this race is $300.

2012 Dorsal Club 2 Club Ocean Swim

This swim is a ripper and is fast becoming known as one of the late season classics. Swimmers will traverse the length of One Mile Beach from Cape Hawke Surf Club before rounding Bennett's Head, swimming past the Tanks and Pebbly Beach to finish on Forster Main Beach approximately 3.8km later. There is also a shorter 1km swim from Pebbly Beach to Main Beach on offer for those who do not wish to take on the main event. Spectators can view the swim along the coastal walkways - well worth the walk as it offers great views of the swimmers & the coastline. Start times - 8:00am (250m); 8.30am (1km) & 10:30am (3.8km). Enjoy a scenic 5km run starting at Gloria Jean's in Blows Lane, runners head north along Memorial Drive, under the bridge, along the pathway adjacent to the marina and along the breakwall, then head along the gravel track to Forster Surf Club and along the beachfront to the Bullring, up North St and into the reserve to the playground. Return along the same route to finish at Gloria Jean's. Then kick back, relax and enjoy a coffee. Presentation commences after the last runner finishes. There's a race category for every age & ability! Heaps of prizes, but race limited to 100 competitiors.

The Great Lakes Art Society presents the 30th Great Lakes Open Art Exhibition & Sale of over 200 paintings. Prizes for each of the award categories total $5800, with an overall Major Award of $1000 for the winning work. All works are new and have not been shown at the gallery prior to this exhibition.
Official opening & presentation of awards will take place on during the exhibition. Tickets $5 includes drinks & finger food. Admission to exhibition is free.

This years annual book fair promises to be better than ever. Well over 30,000 along with hundreds more records, tapes, CDs, DVDs, magazines and other item are expected. Any books donated by the public can be left in collection boxes located at the following venues: Commonwealth Bank, Wharf St & Stockland Centre, Fairway Hair Affair, Forster, Tuncurry Craft Shop, Manning St., Great Lakes Tyrepower, Tuncurry; No Bull Gourmet Meats, Forster Keys. Collections of large quantities of books can be arranged by calling either Peter or John on the above numbers. The rotary club urges the Great Lakes community to get behind this huge humanitarian fundraising initiative.

2012 marks the 52nd annual festival held between the four townships of STROUD in Canada, UK, USA and Australia. This annual event is held on the third Saturday each year in each of the countries, and results compiled on an international basis following the event. Here in Stroud the day commences at 10.30am with a procession through the main street led by International Town Crier Mr. Graham Keating, to the showground where the day's activities will take place. A program of events such as wood chopping, tug-o-war, market stalls, professional foot races and other novelty events then takes place throughout the day. A truly unique & thoroughly entertaining day out!

Hawks Nest Golf Club will be the home of the NSW/ACT PGA Trainee 72 hole Championships for the next three years. The club is a championship rated 18 hole course with an ACR of 71. The course is surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife including many birds, some dingoes and the occasional koala. A love of running and a gap in the sporting calendar has spurred a local triathlete to get Forster's first running festival organise in 2011. So the Secondl Forster Running Festival will be held on Sunday Septembe 9 centred around Main Beach and will include a children's fun run/walk, a ten km run and a 21.2km half marathon. If running isn't your favourite pastime join the 3km charity walk by entering online www.forsterrunningfestival.com.au .The courses will follow the lake and ocean during the one day festival with locals already in training for the crowning jewel - the half marathon. The Stroud Rodeo is included in the top 10 rodeo events in Australia, attracting 800 competitors and 1000 entries, competing in Bullriding, Bronc Riding, Bulldogging and Barrel Racing. There will also be a campdraft on the Friday commencing at 6.30am until about 4pm coinciding with the Rodeo and Live Entertainment with Fully Licenced Bar. 'The Blessing of the Fleet' originated in Molfetta, Italy and came to Tuncurry 46 years ago. Following a 9am special mass at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Tuncurry, the Italian community leads a colourful procession through the streets of Tuncurry to the waterfront carrying a statue of Madonna Dei Martiri, patroness of fishermen. There, a decorated trawler escorts the Madonna and Father Kevin Corrigan to the waiting fleet in the channel. This spectacular procession is a must see on the long weekend.

The passionate sport of triathlon will again return to the birth place of Australian Ironman at Forster. While most events around the country cater for the elitist and seasoned age groupers, the weekend activities will focus on the family with an event schedule to suit ALL levels of fitness and all ages. Saturday will have events in and around Main Beach Forster and Sunday will host an Olympic distance race. It is expected that over 1000 athletes will take part in this weekend.
