Located next door to the Visitor Information Centre, this small market focuses on native plants, vege seedlings, fruit & veg, great home made cakes and delicacies, crafts, jewellery & clothing. Plenty of parking available.  Market runs from 8.00am - 1.00pm.

Your chance to experience a true-blue coastal market with a veritable array of stalls.  You'll find around 50 stallholders peddling handmade, homegrown and pre-loved wares to holiday makers and locals.  The market more than lives up to its mantra of "homemade, homegrown and home-baked" - with a diverse selection of handmade craft, jewellery, clothing, homewares and art works.  And once you're done browsing and buying why take a stroll down the main street for a morning coffee or brunch in one of the many cafes.  Market runs from 8.00am - 2.00pm

The Great Lakes - Great Produce group, consisting of food producers, restaurateurs, vegetable, fruit and herb growers and local people who are passionate about great food. Their aim is to promote fresh produce grown or made in the Great Lakes, and the neighbouring regions of Gloucester, Greater Taree and beyond. Some of the produce to be found include country style breads, cheeses, coffee, bottled preserves, native and rainforest plants, organically grown and bio-dynamically produced foods.  Market runs from 8.00am - 12noon.

Tea Gardens Village Markets is a new and vibrant market situated in the Village Square of the Myall Quays Shopping Village, in Tea Gardens.  With over 30 stallholders selling crafts, plants, photography, gourmet food, body products, clothing, recycled timber products and jewellery, handmade chocolates there is an abundance of variety to choose from.  When combined with the entertainment on offer, you are guaranteed a great family day out!   (please note there will be additional markets on the 3 April, 12 June & 2 Oct)

This is a popular market located harbour side near the bridge and has the added advantage of being sited from the main street in Tuncurry. This is totally open air with use of the under cover Podium for entertainment.  Many of the stall holders come from the local 'North Coast Region' and sell a diverse range of products, from handmade wooden toys to handmade organic skincare. A good variety of clothing, lots of plants, plenty to suit all tastes.   Also available at the market is face painting and the famous Coastal Patrol BBQ.  Market runs from 8.00am - 2.00pm.  (please note the December Market will be held on the 18th)

Nabiac is a quaint and quiet town just off the Pacific Highway, nestled in the hinterland 15 minutes from Forster. This market is held in one of the most picturesque showgrounds in the state.  Be early for the best pick of the locally grown and produced goodies such as organic vegies, free range eggs, local fruits, chocolates, gingerbread, honey, olives and olive oil, plants, chooks, quail, wine tasting, local crafts, BBQ and an all round social event.  Bring a friend and enjoy an old-fashioned shopping experience. The use of reusable bags and baskets are encouraged. Market runs from 8.00am til 12noon. (please note there will be no December Market)

This is a market with definite atmosphere, you can wander through colourful stalls and peruse the collection of local handmade jewellery, timber carvings, body products, hemp clothing, eco & fair trade products, there's even a Tibetan stall where you can purchase Tibetan prayer flags, affirmation scrolls or a metal singing bowl....  The Palms Market is famous for its great organic foods and coffee. Sample the delicious banana pancakes, whilst sipping on an expresso on the shaded deck overlooking the stalls.  With pony rides and a jumping castle for the kids!  Market runs from 9.00am - 1.00pm (please note there will be no market in March & April's markets will be held on the Sat 4th & Sat 25)

Mondays, Wednesdays & Saturdays at 1:15pm and Tuesdays & Thursdays at 9am every week.  Cost $4 members & $6 guests. With dinner & bridge from 5:30pm on the 1st Friday of every month. Cost $10 members, $12 guests.

No visit to Forster/Tuncurry is complete without seeing this fabulous Centre.  Forster Arts & Crafts Centre hosts changing monthly exhibitions as well as displaying a large range of art,crafts, ceramics, woodwork and pottery for sale from its members.  There are also classes in many art forms. GLEAM Stands for Great Lakes Entertainers and Musicians and is hostedby the Tuncurry Bowling Club.  A professional audio and lighting system is provided (with an operator) for local band and soloists who would like to get up on a real stage and be heard.  It's all family friendly and free for performers and guests.  GLEAM 1 is on the first Sunday of the month and is best for loud bands.  While GLEAM 3 is on the third Sunday and is a more relaxed environment, better suited to soloists and bands that play at lower volumes.  Both events start at 3:30pm  Support local artists by coming along and enjoying a great Sunday Afternoon session at the Tuncurry Bowlo

The Ocean & Earth NSW Junior Surfing Titles will be held at Forster/Tuncurry from Wed 28 July to Sun 1 August 2010. The titles will see over 200 of the best junior surfers in NSW compete across 6 divisions for prestigious State Titles. The event will be fully mobile in the Great Lakes area with Nine Mile Beach, Tuncurry, One Mile Beach Forster and Boomerang Beach at Pacific Palms all venue options.

This tennis tournament is open to all players 35 years and over. Events staged are singles, mens and ladies doubles and mixed doubles. Matches will be played on 30 synthetic grass and European clay courts in the Forster district. Players should check their venue the day prior to their event. Entry forms are available from Forster Tennis Club with closing date being Wed 21 July.

Forster Tennis Club's Dinner Dance for 2010 will be held at Forster Bowling Club on Saturday 31st July at 7pm for 7.30pm start. Tickets are $28 each so come along and enjoy yourself! The bowling club has a courtesy coach that could pick you up and return to your accommodation if required - just phone 6554 6155 to book a seat.

Join us for a unique dining experience celebrating the wonderful and abundant produce that is produced in our backyards! Featuring an all locally sourced 4 course menu from our Great Lakes region to be held at 7pm Saturday 31 July for only $50 per person. Special Guest Hosts - Linda & Mark from Banks & Dade family chiropractors present a healthy eating showcase based around the locally sourced produce on the menu. The menu will be complemented by an impressive showcase from the Great Lakes Wines collection presented by Steve. Reservations essential!

Come and visit Forster Arts & Crafts Centre in Breese Parade to view our very special doll exhibition. There will be over 100 dolls as well as prams on display courtesy of our members ~ some of which are quite old and may bring back some memories. The exhibition will run for the month of August but may extend further. Entry is free.

Support our local education providers and their students during Education Week 2010 from 11am - 1pm daily. Monday will see the Great Lakes College Music Students performance, Tuesday the Forster Tuncurry Community College & Great Lakes Campus will have a booth, Wednesday the NSW Gifted & Talented group will perform, Thursday Gloucester HS, Cundletown PS & Bungwahl PS will present performances and on Friday, the Community College and Great Lakes TAFE will again have a booth.

You are invited to come along to one or many of the events planned for Local Government Week and participate in some of the activities, services and events that Council offers residents regularly. Take the time to check out Council's website and discover the opportunities and information available from your council. Tuesday 3 August at 10am will be the Official Launch of Local Government Week and Citizenship Ceremony at the Council Chambers in Forster followed by Meet Your Councillors with Morning tea provided at no charge.

Come along for a fabulous night of fundraising for Brody Reilly, a 5 year old boy battling a rare form of leukaemia. Brody Rocks  and so will we ! The event will be held on Saturday 7th August at the Tuncurry Bowling Club from 7pm - 11pm. Live music ~ The Perfect Strangers & The Shane Mcleay Band. There will be thousands of $$ worth of amazing prizes donated by local businesses including a "SINGLE MAN AUCTION"! Entry is a $10 donation. The 3rd Annual TriNSW Female Triathlon Training Camp will be held in Forster - this will be the best female camp yet. Based on the last few years, the camp this year will be extended for an extra day beginning Thursday afternoon and concluding Sunday mid morning. Females of all abilities whether a seasoned athlete or attempting your first triathlon either Sprint, Olympic, Long Course or Ironman, are invited to attend. Entries open 1 June and will close once all spots are filled or on June 30th which ever comes first.

NPWS is hosting an Open Day at Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse in Myall Lakes National Park.   Take a unique opportunity to climb inside the light tower. Guided tours of the lighthouse site Displays showcasing Sugarloaf Point lighthouse heritage Listen in as radio operators make contact with other lighthouses around the world.

The Myall Community Art & Craft Centre is a self funded Community organisation run by volunteers as a service to the community.  An open day demonstrating all craft classes Art, Woodwork, Wood Turning, Leatherwork, Pottery, Mosaics, Folk Art, Embroidery/Needlework, Spinning & Weaving, Quilting and Leadlighting. Held in the forests around Bulahdelah , the 2010 Myall Stages Rally has been upgraded to a NSW State Championship round with a Clubman event held at the end for those competitors who want to have fun.  Myall Stages is also the only club rally in NSW which provides an opportunity for drivers to develop their pacenoting skills. Hawks Nest Golf Club will be the home of the NSW/ACT PGA Trainee 72 hole Championships for the next three years. The club is a championship rated 18 hole course with an ACR of 71. The course is surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife including many birds, some dingos and the occasional koala. There is a modern clubhouse and the club maintains a hire fleet of Yamaha electric golf carts for use by members and visitors. Entry forms available from the club.

Australian Idol winner Stan Walker will headline the North Coast TAFE's popular Deadly Days Festival when it makes a return to Tuncurry in September. Ernie Dingo will host the tour as it makes stops in Tuncurry, Kempsey and Casino. The event wil include a program of action learning and activities for Aboriginal communities up and down the coast. North Coast TAFE director of Aboriginal Learning Partnerships, Heather McGregor said that last year's festivals attracted over 2000 students from 115 schools from as far away as Tamworth and Penrith. The day is a 'come one, come all event' with performances by the headline acts, popular hip hop workshops, sessions with sporting heroes and other high profile Aboriginal people and healthy cultural food on the menu. The festivals encourage increased participation by young Aboriginal people in education, training and employment.  The Deadly Days Festival will visit Great Lakes TAFE Campus on Friday September 3 from 9am to 3pm.

The annual Nabiac Motorcycle Swap Meet will be held in the grounds of the National Motorcycle Museum, 33 Clarkson St, Nabiac.  This is strictly a motorcycle paraphernalia swap meet only.  no bric-a-brac, furniture or clothing. Bookings are essential and starts at 6am

The Small Footprint Initiative is a community run event to encourage a positive local spirit, directed towards raising awareness of a healthy, active, socially and ecologically responsible lifestyle in our area. The proposed format for the initiative includes a "slow food" organic wine dinner and entertainment on Friday evening with Saturday's events centring on sustainable home tours, demonstrations and workshops (Pacific Palms). Sunday will include a much wider variety of information and education stalls, workshops and discussions. There will also be a strong push towards fun & educational children's activities. The Stroud Rodeo is included in the top 10 rodeo events in Australia, attracting 800 competitors and 1000 entries, competing in Bullriding, Bronc Riding, Bulldogging and Barrel Racing. Watch the kayakers depart on their 47km paddle up the magical Myall River, all to raise money for the “Cure for Life Foundation”. Enjoy a bacon and egg roll freshly cooked by the Lions Club. The action starts on the banks of the Myall River opposite the Tea Gardens Hotel Motel,  Marine Drive, Tea Gardens. Starts 8am.

In John Wright Park you'll find market stalls, pony rides, magicians, petrol jeeps, face painting, jumping castle, BBQ and much much more......... So come along & get the long weekend off to the best possible start!!

Nabiac Charity Rodeo committee has been reformed. The last event was held 23 years ago. The rodeo and chopping events will kick off at 12noon with bands performing from 8 to 11pm Saturday 2nd October at the Nabiac Showground.  Fantastic acoustic guitarists/singer songwriters Matt Zarb and Minnie Marks plus the Gold Coast based Hussy Hicks will perform as part of the Acoustic Guitar Masters Australia series. Headlining the night will be the Sydney based Country/Rock outfit Chuck's Wagon. There will be kids activities, food stalls, a bar area and Al Wilson the Rodeo Clown. Ticket prices will be Adult $18; family $38 (2 adults & 3 children u/16); Child and Seniors $15; Children under 5 are free.  The nominated charity for this year's event, is the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Everyone is guaranteed a rocking good time at Nabiac on the October long weekend.

Come & view some amazing action at this years Surf Life Saving Carnival Main Beach Forster. Saturday will see an Ironman Event for Under 15's, with 2 laps of the course for Nippers & 1 for Masters.  The standard Surf Carnival format resumes for Sunday, with a March Past at 8:15am & racing commencing at 8:30am.  Entries & payments to be submitted by Monday 27 Sept.

The Tuncurry/Forster Jockey Club is very happy to announce that Racing NSW Country has granted the club another race meeting to be held Saturday 2 October 2010. Come along, glam up to witness the inaugural running of the Tuncurry Mile. The club is also going to hold a glamour hats and heels Spring fashion on the field day to celebrate the running of this race with prizes for both ladies and gents from some of the best fashion shops in the twin towns.

'The Blessing of the Fleet' originated in Molfetta, Italy and came to Tuncurry 45 years ago.  Following a 9am special mass at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Tuncurry, the Italian community leads a colourful procession through the streets of Tuncurry to the waterfront carrying a statue of Madonna Dei Martiri, patroness of fishermen. There, a decorated trawler escorts the Madonna and Father Kevin Corrigan to the waiting fleet in the channel.  This spectacular procession is a must see on the long weekend.

The Rotary Motor Market will be held at the Aldi end of the carpark near Kmart Tyres at Stockland Forster. Bring your car, ute, boat, ride-on or anything that can be sold as ONE item.  This is a market for Big Boys Toys! Sellers $20 - Buyers free.  Market runs from 8am - 1.30pm

The Wildcat Regatta has achieved legendary status as the most popular and "must do" regatta amongst catamaran sailors along Australia's east coast. No other regatta draws as many competitors to the one event. This is Australia's largest catamaran regatta with an international class attracting Olympic and world champions, Masters and Junior Series.  »  read more

Music, singing, dancing and great humour can only mean one thing - audiitions for GLADS up and coming production, Opportunity Knocks, are about to get under way. Full of plenty of questionable characters, Opportunity Knocks, is set in an op shop run by a motley crew of volunteers in their senior years. The finale will have the audience on their feet yelling for more.  Written by nationally recognised playwright, Judith Prior, fans wil be familiar with her work. The performances will be held at the Tuncurry Memorial Hall.

Great Lakes/Manning Valley Weekend of Golf (WOG).  Playing Taree, Tallwoods and Forster courses.  Registration is on the 10th October 2010 in Forster.

Great Lakes Nursing Home assisted by the Bulahdelah Lions Club present THE MYALL CHALLENGE on October 15, 16 & 17 2010. Not a race but a personal challenge - can you endure 1, 2 or 3 days of this exciting paddling event. Participate in any or all of the three stages or change your crew for each of the different legs. Participants can start at any time of the day but should aim to complete each segment before 5pm. Support boats will be on hand at each stage with refreshments and BBQ at the end of each day. Canoes and kayaks will be securely stored each night (at Nerong on Fri and Violet Hill on Sat) enabling participants to return to the comfort of their own accommodation overnight. Participants will be responsible for their own canoes/kayaks, lifejackets, lunches/drinks and snacks together with transport to and from each venue. Cost per person per stage is $10 ie., $30pp for all three stages, $10 for a single stage. Get together with a group of friends or family and get into training for a wonderful wekeend exploring the beautiful Myall Lakes waterways. Fri 15th Oct - depart from boat ramp opposite  Plough Inn Hotel 7am onwards arriving Nerong by 5pm. Sat 16th Oct - depart Nerong 7am on - arrive Violet Hill before 5pm. Sun 17th Oct - depart Violet Hill 7am on arriving Neranie before 5pm for family BBQ & festivities.

The Myall Coast Festival is a family-friendly day, with a large variety of market stalls, stage entertainment, river activities, games and competitions for the kids, all taking place on the magical waterfront of Tea Gardens, beside the Myall River.  This year we are incorporating some activities over on the new Pontoon on Moira Parade park, Hawks Nest.  Commencing on Friday 29th October for the Opening of the Focus on The Artist of the Myall Exhibition we'll have the famous Myall Fireworks Display on the beautiful Myall River.  So bring your hat, sunscreen and the whole family!  »  read more

Now in its 20th year, this all female learn-to-surf program actively encourages non-surfers and beginners of all ages to experience the waves with customised introductory learn to surf lessons. It is the world's leading all-girl surf program and runs at over 60 registered Surf Schools right around the Australian Coastline. Entry fee is $40 for a Learn to Surf Lesson; Board and Wetsuit Hire and a Showbag including Rip Curl Singlet.

This annual Agricultural Show incorporates a full program of ring events, wood chopping, rodeo, working cattle dog trials, whipcracking, junior showgirl competition, pavilion displays, pet show, music, evening entertainment & children’s activities.

Events February 2011

The Battle of the Boats is one of the largest surf boat Carnivals in NSW and has given pacific Palms it's largest annual event.  boat crews from all over the state including Queensland and Victoria come to compete in this award winning carnival.  The carnival has deservedly gained a reputation as a well run event in a beautiful part of the world.  It provides crews with top level competition leading into State and Aussies titles. >> Read more

A catch and release bass fishing competition held at senior and junior levels. Heaps of camping along the river edge, prizes and refreshments available. All proceeds raised go to the fingerling fund. The Bass Bash Ball held on Friday night is a must for any fisherman who enjoys music and entertainment.

Events March 2011

This is a great family day out at a rural show with a full program of ring events, rodeo, pavilion displays, show jumping, dog show, grand parade, children's activities and a fireworks finale. There will be a "Monster Demolition Derby" to raise funds for the Childrens Ward of the Manning Base Hospital. From 7am - 10pm

The waters of Wallis Lake, the surrounding headlands and beaches along with its offshore reefs offer competing anglers some of the best competitive Sportfishing grounds in NSW! Events such as the ABT Bream Megabucks and the Australian Fishing Championships have for years based themselves on Wallis Lake, home of the big bream!! And now after a year off - the Forster Fishing Carnival is back & bigger than ever! A great day out for all "Rev-Heads"!  Join us for the 9th Annual Motorfest event featuring hundreds of veteran, vintage, classic & modern cars, trucks and motorcycles. There will be displays and amusements including presentations by the Fire Brigade, Ambulance Service and the Surf Lifesaving Club. A special performance group and the Tea Gardens School Band will be there to entertain; food and drinks available at the local community club stalls, raffles and judging of vehicles. Starts 8.30am and ends approx. 2.30pm.  Public entry is a gold coin donation - with all monies going to local charities.

Now in its 19th year, this annual six-a-side soccer competition saw 100 teams (both men and women) compete for winners honours in 2010.  Regarded as one of the best of its type in NSW, games are quick, exciting and very competitive. Free entertainment provided on the Saturday night. »  read more

Welcome to the 12th Annual Rock to Rock Ocean Swim.  Enjoy a 1.5km swim at one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever visit, one of the famed "North Coast - north-facing-beaches" which means it is sheltered from the vicissitudes of the nasty weather. FREE BBQ is included in the cost of entry. The late start (12noon), means it's easily done as a day trip from Sydney, thus avoiding the perils of Easter traffic. Come along to Forster's Annual Duck Race on Easter Sunday in Breckenridge Channel, off Memorial Drive Forster behind Westpac. Commencing with 'The Celebrity Duck Race' for local businesses and followed shortly afterwards by the main 'Easter Duck Race' aimed at the individual or family, in particular children.  Monies raised will support a range of local Rotary Youth programs & a yet-to-be nominated local not-for-profit organisation. Watch your duck race to the finishing line along with 1000 other yellow plastic ducks!

The Annual Stroud Show is one of the few traditional two day Agricultural Shows still in existence. Skaters and BMX riders will battle it out again at this annual King of the Krater event.  With seven categories including, for the first time, Open Scooters this is one competition not to miss! The competition will kick off at 10.30am with registrations taken from 8am - 10am.

This swim is a ripper and is fast becoming known as one of the late season classics.  Swimmers will traverse the length of One Mile Beach from Cape Hawke Surf Club before rounding Bennett's Head, swimming past the Tanks and Pebbly Beach to finish on Forster Main Beach approximately 3.8km later.  There is also a shorter 1km swim from Pebbly Beach to Main Beach on offer for those who do not wish to take on the main event. Spectators can view the swim along the coastal walkways  - well worth the walk as it offers great views of the swimmers & the coastline.  Start times -  8:30am & 10:30am  »  download entry form

Enjoy a scenic 5km run starting on Forster Main Beach, up Second Head and along Pebbly Beach parkland to Frewin's Walk. Return the same way, back along the beach, past the Surf Club and over Pilot Hill, past the Coastal Patrol to the breakwall. Return along Reserve Rd, under the bridge and along Memorial Drive to the finish at Gloria Jean's.  There's a race category for every age & ability! Heaps of prizes, but race limited to 100 competitiors. Registration from 3pm at Main Beach, Forster.  Race starts at 4pm.

Come and play (or just spectate) at the annual Myall Classic Golf Championships at Hawks Nest Golf Club.  Hawks Nest is a championship rated 18 hole course with an ACR of 71 and is probably the finest wet weather course in the Newcastle district.  Set in a beautiful tranquil natural bushland, the club offers modern clubhouse facilties and always a warm welcome!
